Cbank: Foreigners buy 19.8% of Russia’s OFZ bonds on May 13

MOSCOW, May 18 (PRIME) -- Non-residents bought 19.8% of Russian OFZ federal bonds on May 13, the central bank said in its weekly research note late on May 15.

“The Finance Ministry placed two issues of OFZs totaling 128.1 billion rubles with a fixed coupon and with maturity of 5.5 and 15.2 years on May 13. Local investors continued to show high demand for the securities, while non-residents reduced their purchases at the auction as compared with the previous week, their share amounted to 19.8%,” the research note read.

The amount of foreign investment in OFZs on accounts of foreign depositories in the National Settlement Depository grew by 28 billion rubles from May 8 through May 14, and their share amounted to 30.3% as of May 14, the authority said.

Foreigners also bought 32.4 billion rubles of foreign currency on the Russian market from May 8 through May 14, and sold shares of Russian companies worth 28.7 billion rubles on the stock market in the period, the central bank said.
